Australia’s Biggest BBQ for our tradies
How your support is building a better future for all our workforce
Construction is one of the most exciting industries to be a part of. The infrastructure being built connects, transforms and shapes cities and regions. The health and wellbeing of people is of paramount importance. Educating and protecting workers from risks, including the long-term risks like those associated with dust and lung disease, including silicosis, is vital.
Professor Dan Chambers and his team of researchers supported by the Tradie Health Institute initiative are genuinely moving the dial towards advancing tangible, impactful detection and treatment outcomes. All donations collected from this industry-wide event is supporting cutting- edge research, including the development of treatments and preventative measures for silicosis and other occupational lung diseases related to construction, mining, building and tunnelling.
The impact of your fundraising
Your fundraising supports life-saving and life-changing research to improve the lives of tradies and their families.
New Testing Methods
The development of new techniques and non-invasive tests to detect occupational lung diseases earlier including an Australian-first PExA (Particles in Exhaled Air) machine trial.
Identification of DNA Markers
Development of new genetic tests to identify those at risk of developing an occupational lung disease, and why. This will be critical in pre-employment or re-deployment.New Treatment Methods
Identifying new treatment methods that can create better outcomes for patients who have already been diagnosed with silicosis and other occupational lung diseases.

Our research is a chance to make sure that these workers feel like they’re not alone, and they don’t have to face a death sentence.
Professor Dan Chambers
Thoracic Transplant Physician – Queensland Lung Transplant Service

By supporting this research, we hope to advance earlier detection of silicosis and, in time, make portable, on-site lung screening possible for workers in high-risk industries.
Dr Rebekah Engel
Research and Impact Manager – The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation

This research will potentially provide treatment without these workers having to face something as drastic as a lung transplant.
Dr Simon Apte
Chief Scientist – Queensland Lung Transplant Service Research Centre

The Foundation is backing this research to enable the early detection of silicosis, helping drive discoveries that can make a real difference and support healthier futures for workers in high-risk industries.

Can any company, project or team get involved?
Who are CPB Contractors?
CPB Contractors is a leading contractor in the construction and infrastructure industry, delivering some of Australia and New Zealand’s most complex and critical projects for more than 90 years.
As an organisation, we recognise the urgent need to support medical research into less invasive and more impactful detection methods for silicosis, as well as advanced treatments that improve health outcomes for tradies and their families. We are proud to support the important work of the Queensland Lung Transplant Service Research Centre, one of Australia’s leading lung research facilities.
Construction is one of the most exciting industries to be part of, and the infrastructure we build connects, transforms, and shapes cities and regions. The health and wellbeing of people is paramount, and educating and protecting workers from all risks—including long-term risks like dust exposure and lung disease, including silicosis—is vital.
This campaign, and the research supported by the Tradie Health Initiative, is helping make that happen. We thank you for joining us in supporting Professor Dan Chambers and his team of researchers and clinicians.
How will I know who donated to my fundraising page?
You can find a list of your donations on your fundraising page. You’ll also receive an email every time someone makes a donation.
You can also see all of your donations under the “My Donations” section in menu.
How do I deposit the funds I have raised?
We encourage all donations to be made through our fundraising platform.
If you have collected funds via cash or EFTPOS, these funds can be deposited to the following account:
- Bank: NAB
- Reference: Biggest BBQ
- Account Name: The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation
- BSB: 084004
- Account Number: 758971644
You can then add these cash or EFTPOS donations to your fundraising tally by clicking “Add an Offline Donation” under “My Donations”.
Will we be covered under the Foundation’s public liability insurance?
Unfortunately, no. As a fundraiser you are responsible for obtaining any necessary insurance, permits or licences. This may include local government permission if you are organising an event in a public space.
Is my personal/donor’s information kept confidential?
We keep your Personal Information private and do not share it with other third parties. The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation is committed to protecting your privacy. Our Privacy Policy is aligned to the Australian Privacy Principles, ensuring you greater transparency around how we handle your personal information.
How should I set up and collect donations for my BBQ fundraiser?
Keep your BBQ setup simple so sales can be processed quickly on the day.
We recommend charging $3 or $4 for a sausage sizzle and $2 for a can of drink. A combo deal for $5 works well too, giving great value for money and making it easier to give change.
You may also want to offer a prepaid option. Ensure people include their names when donating, and you’ll be able to use the donation board to keep track of who’s paid.
You can accept cash, card (via a portable tap-and-go/EFTPOS machine), or QR code payments from your poster. If using cash, have a float with small notes and coins.
To keep things moving, have one person dedicated to processing payments while others cook and serve. Clear pricing signs will also help the line move faster.
Do I need permission to fundraise?
Yes. Legally anyone collecting funds on our behalf must be registered and have an Authority to Fundraise (ATF). Please email info@thecommongood.org.au to get started.
Get in touch today — let’s fire it up for a sizzling good cause.
