Donate to Provide a Comfort Pack for an Older Patient

Small items are a big comfort when you're rushed into hospital without your things.

Your kindness can help someone feel a whole lot better

Older patients can find themselves in hospital after a fall or sudden illness – with no time to pack their things.

Being unwell is distressing enough, and sometimes a person can arrive in clothing that’s soiled or bloodied, or has been partially cut away by emergency care teams.

Help fund 500 Comfort Packs for patients in the geriatric ward at The Prince Charles Hospital.

Your gift can give someone a Comfort Pack that includes:

  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • hand lotion to soothe dry skin
  • a clean T-shirt  pair of underwear ‘shorts’
  • a puzzle book.

Provide some ‘little’ comforts that can make a big difference to an older person who is hurt or sick.

“It’s an unfamiliar place, and when it got dark, I’d think about what I’d be doing at home.”

Muriel ended up in hospital suddenly after falling at home and breaking her hip.

When she arrived at the hospital, she was disoriented. Her slacks had to be cut off. She couldn't get hold of her son who lived hours a way in a place with no phone signal. She was worried about her senior dog, Dudley, who was left at home.

She was in a hospital ward without spare clothes, a toothbrush, or any of her personal things. All this meant Muriel was alone and vulnerable.

Thankfully, Muriel has now had her hip fixed and is back at home with Dudley. But sadly, other older people will continue to be rushed to hospital, hurt, scared, and without any of the things they need for even an overnight stay.

You can make such a difference to how they feel.

Dr Lucy sees the difference Comfort Packs make

Being rushed into hospital can be a frightening, disorienting experience. Staying there without so much as a toothbrush makes it even worse.

Dr Lucy says, “Occasionally, I have patients who have nobody in their lives to go to their homes and bring things in. They can be stuck in the hospital for weeks with nothing but their hospital gowns.

Simple things like feeling comfortable, smelling nice, not having horrible undies on. All of those things make people feel better, and then they get better quicker.”

Donate today – provide a Comfort Pack (or two!) that can help people like Muriel feel better – and get better.

Most of us can think of an older person in our lives who could end up in hospital.

Your donation
can make such a difference to an older person who needs medical treatment – and kindness – at a difficult time in their life.

Please don't delay in sharing your kindness.
